The Garmin GPSMAP 86s marine handheld GPS device provides the marine-going adventurer, fisherman, etc with everything they could want to know when navigating coastal waters and inland waters alike. Featuring an impressive 65,000 colour transflective TFT 3-inch screen, the Garmin GPSMAP 86s features include built-in worldwide basemap, electronic GPS compass and barometric altimeter. The Garmin GPSMAP 86s also features the ability to connect to compatible Garmin chartplotters and compatible smartphones to share, access and relay information. What's more being designed for marine use the handheld Garmin GPSMAP 86s unit floats on water and is also waterproof to IPX7 standard.

Button operation

Unlike other Garmin handheld devices designed more for land based use, the marine designed Garmin GPSMAP 86s uses button operation to toggle through the units menu and select the information you require or wish to capture or navigate from. Button operation is preferred to the alternative, touchscreen operation, in marine environments where you will likely encounter spray, rendering touchscreen units inoperable.

Built-in compass, barometer and altimeter

The Garmin GPSMAP 86i features a built-in compass, barometer and altimeter. When navigating, the compass heading points to your destination, regardless of the direction you are moving. When the compass points toward the top of the electronic compass, you know you are traveling directly towards your destination. The Sight N' Go feature allows you to point the Garmin GPSMAP 86s at an object in the distance, lock in the direction, and navigate to the object. The Garmin GPSMAP 86s built-in altimeter displays the elevation over the distance travelled. You can also select any point on the plot to view details about that point.

Optional land maps and marine charts

The Garmin GPSMAP 86s is preloaded with a worldwide basemap. Optional maps on microSD card can be purchased from ActiveGPS to add additional map detail to the Garmin GPSMAP 86s. Rechargeable internal lithium ion battery

The Garmin GPSMAP 86s is powered via an internal rechargeable internal lithium ion. The battery life depends on your Garmin GPSMAP 86s settings and usage. Using for example the built-in torch and using GPS and another satellite together e.g. GPS + GLONASS satellites will reduce the battery life. The internal rechargeable battery can provide up to 40 hours battery life.

Connecting with other devices

The Garmin GPSMAP 86s features the following three built-in connectivity technologies - Wi-fi, ANT+ and Bluetooth to connect to other devices and receive wireless downloads and updates. Using this connectivity you can sync the Garmin GPSMAP 86s with compatible Garmin chartplotters and instruments and view real-time boat data displayed right on the screen of the Garmin GPSMAP 86s. Plus, the Garmin GPSMAP 86s can also serve as a remote control for convenient operation of your Garmin autopilot and select FUSION marine products.

Additonally, you can connect or pair the Garmin GPSMAP 86s with your compatible smartphone to receive smart notifications on the screen of the Garmin GPSMAP 86s. Alternatively, you can also sync the Garmin GPSMAP 86s with the Garmin Explore portal and app for cloud management of your favourite waypoints, tracks and routes.

Map Coverage

The Garmin GPSMAP 86s comes supplied with a preloaded worldwide basemap. Additional mapping can also be added via the Garmin GPSMAP 86s microSD card slot located on the side of the GPSMAP 86s handheld device.
